Invite or accept an accountant

PeakBooks is built for accountant ↔ client collaboration from the ground up. The business owner stays in control of access, the accountant gets a clean workspace to do month-end and tax work, and every action is attributed to the person who made it.

If you're the business owner — inviting your accountant

  1. Go to Settings  ›  Accountant access.
  2. Click Invite accountant.
  3. Enter their email and an optional note (e.g., "Q1 cleanup before sales tax filing").
  4. Send. We email them a secure invite link, valid for 7 days.

You'll see the pending invite on the same page. Once your accountant accepts, the row flips to Active with their name and the date they joined.

What your accountant can do

Revoking access

If you switch accountants or end the engagement, go to Settings  ›  Accountant access, find the accountant row, and click Revoke. Their access is removed immediately. The full audit trail of what they did stays in your books — revoke is not a "delete the history" button.

If you're the accountant — accepting an invite

  1. Open the invite email and click Accept invite.
  2. If you don't already have a PeakBooks account, you'll be prompted to create one with the email the invite was sent to. (If you have an account on a different email, sign in to that one first, then click the invite link — we'll attach the client to your existing account.)
  3. Once accepted, you land on the firm dashboard. The new client appears in your Your Clients list.

Switching into a client's books

From your firm dashboard, click any client's row. PeakBooks loads their books and a top banner appears showing You're viewing [Client name]. Everything you do — categorizing, reconciling, journal entries — is attributed to you in the audit log but lives in their books.

To return to your firm dashboard, click ← Exit client view at the top-left.

Asking the client a question
Inside a client's books, every transaction row has a ? button. Click it to flag the row with a question — the client gets a notification, and your question lands in their Q&A inbox. When they reply, you'll see the answer back in the same thread without leaving the books.

Team members

If your firm has multiple bookkeepers/accountants, the firm admin can add them under Settings  ›  Team on the firm dashboard, and assign specific clients to each team member. Each team member only sees the clients they're assigned to.
